Dr Ben Heard will be discussing ‘The future of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and the nuclear fuel cycle in South Australia’ at AusIMM’s Adelaide Technical Lunch in September.

Frazer-Nash Senior Consultant, Dr Ben Heard will be discussing ‘The future of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and the nuclear fuel cycle in South Australia’ at the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy’s (AusIMM’s) Adelaide Technical Lunch.

Describing his talk at the September Technical Lunch, which runs from 12.00-2.00pm on 23 September, Ben said:

“I’ll be discussing the latest technological developments in SMRs, their various use cases for power generation in Australia (with a focus on South Australia), and the remaining challenges in setting harmonised regulations that will support the SMR business mode.

“I’ll also be talking about the recent formal nomination of Kimba in South Australia to host low-level nuclear waste, and to store intermediate-level waste temporarily at the Napandee facility, and discussing the significance of this new asset and capability.”

The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) is a body for those working in the resources sector, and represents a global community from 110 countries.
